Find answers to common questions about the Ultima Countdown Timer app.

General Questions

What is Ultima Countdown Timer?

Ultima Countdown Timer is a Shopify app that allows you to create and display countdown timers on your store. You can create one-time timers for specific dates or recurring (evergreen) timers that show the same duration for every visitor. The app offers extensive styling options, precise targeting, and multiple layout choices.

Is the app free?

The app offers a free plan with basic features and paid plans with advanced functionality. Please check our pricing page on the Shopify App Store for detailed plan comparisons and current pricing.

Do I need coding skills to use this app?

No coding skills are required. The app provides an intuitive admin interface where you can configure everything visually. For advanced placement options, you may need to use the Shopify theme editor, which is also a visual, no-code interface.

Will the timers slow down my store?

No, the timers are optimized for performance. They use lightweight JavaScript and CSS, and they don't significantly impact page load times. The preview panel in the admin uses the same code that runs on your storefront.

Can I use multiple timers on the same page?

Yes, you can use multiple timers on the same page. However, be mindful of the user experience - too many timers might overwhelm visitors. Each timer operates independently and can be targeted to different sections of the page.

Timer Configuration

What's the difference between one-time and recurring timers?

  • One-time timers: Count down to a specific date and time, then expire. Perfect for seasonal sales, product launches, and events with fixed end dates.
  • Recurring (evergreen) timers: Show the same duration for every visitor and restart on each page load. Ideal for always-on urgency like "Flash sale ends in 2 hours".

How do I set the timezone for my timer?

The timer uses your Shopify store's timezone setting. You can check and update your timezone in Shopify admin > Settings > Store details > Store timezone. The timer automatically converts all dates and times to this timezone for display.

Can I hide specific time units?

Yes, in the Timer Units section, you can check boxes to hide days, hours, minutes, or seconds. You can also hide all unit labels for a minimalist look. Hidden units are completely removed from the display.

What happens after the timer expires?

You have four options in the After Expiration section:

  • Show zero: Timer displays 00:00:00
  • Hide timer: Timer disappears completely
  • Show message: Display a custom message with styling options
  • Redirect page: Automatically redirect visitors to another URL

Can I change the text labels (Days, Hours, etc.)?

Yes, in the Content section, you can customize the text for days, hours, minutes, and seconds. This allows you to use different languages or terminology like "Días", "Horas", or "DD", "HH".

Targeting & Visibility

How do I show a timer only on specific products?

  1. In the Targeting section, click "Choose Products".
  2. Select the products from the resource picker.
  3. The selected products will appear in a box below.
  4. The timer will only show on those product pages.

You can also use "Exclude selected products" to show the timer on all products except the ones you selected.

How do I show a timer on all collection pages?

To show a timer on all collection pages, you have two options:

  • Option 1: Use the Product or Container layout and leave collection targeting empty. The timer will appear on all collection pages where the layout is supported.
  • Option 2: Use App Block mode and manually add the timer block to your collection template in the theme editor.

What is the Timer ID used for?

The Timer ID is a unique identifier for each timer. You use it when:

  • Placing timers as App Blocks in the Shopify theme editor
  • Referring to a specific timer in support requests
  • Using advanced Liquid code (for developers)

You can find the Timer ID in the Targeting section and copy it with one click.

Can I show different timers on different pages?

Absolutely! Create multiple timers and use the targeting options for each:

  • Use page checkboxes (Home, Cart, Password) for simple page-level targeting.
  • Use collection targeting for collection pages.
  • Use product targeting for product pages.
  • Combine targeting options for precise control.

What's the difference between Embed and Apps Block mode?

  • Embed mode: The app automatically places timers based on your layout selection. Simpler, but less control over exact positioning.
  • Apps Block mode: You manually place timers using the Shopify theme editor. Requires an extra step but gives you pixel-perfect control over placement.

Styling & Design

Can I use my own fonts?

The timer uses your theme's font settings by default. The font size, weight, and color controls in the app will work with whatever font your theme uses. For custom fonts, you would need to add them to your theme separately.

How do I make the timer responsive on mobile?

The app includes dedicated Mobile Settings where you can override desktop values for:

  • Padding and margins
  • Font sizes for all elements (title, timer, separator, text, button)
  • Element spacing
  • Separator height

These settings automatically apply on smaller screens.

Can I add a background image to my timer?

The app provides overlay colors and blur effects, but doesn't directly support background images. To use a background image, you would need to:

  1. Set the timer layout to Container or a fixed container option.
  2. Add the background image to the container section in your theme (requires theme customization).

Alternatively, you can use the overlay with a solid color for a clean look.

What are presets and how do they work?

Presets are pre-designed style templates (Default, Carbon, Spring, Black Friday, Blue, Glass). When you select a preset, it automatically adjusts colors, spacing, and layout options to match that design. You can then further customize individual settings after applying a preset.

How do I create a glass morphism effect?

To create a glass (frosted) effect:

  1. Choose the Glass preset or start from scratch.
  2. In Background & Overlay, enable overlay.
  3. Set overlay_color to white or light gray.
  4. Set overlay_opacity to a low value like 0.2-0.3.
  5. Add a blur value (e.g., "10px") - this works for container layouts.

Troubleshooting

My timer is not showing on the storefront

Try these troubleshooting steps:

  1. Check that the timer is Active (the checkbox in the preview panel is checked).
  2. Verify that you've selected the correct pages in the Targeting section.
  3. If using App Block mode, confirm you've added the block in the theme editor and entered the correct Timer ID.
  4. Clear your store and browser cache.
  5. Check if the timer has expired and the "After Expired" setting is set to "Hide timer".
  6. Ensure your theme is up to date.

The timer styling looks wrong or broken

  1. Check if another app or theme customization is conflicting with the timer's CSS.
  2. Try switching to a different layout or preset to see if the issue persists.
  3. Verify that all CSS values are properly formatted (e.g., "16px" not just "16").
  4. Check mobile-specific settings if the issue only occurs on mobile.
  5. Inspect the element using browser developer tools to identify conflicting styles.

The timer is not counting down correctly

  1. Verify your store's timezone setting in Shopify admin.
  2. For one-time timers, check that the end date and time are set correctly.
  3. For recurring timers, confirm the duration values are entered correctly.
  4. Check if the timer has already expired.
  5. Try a different browser to rule out caching issues.

I can't save my timer

  1. Check that all required fields (like Timer name) are filled.
  2. Ensure all form values are valid (e.g., proper date format).
  3. Try refreshing the page and trying again.
  4. Check your internet connection.
  5. If the problem persists, contact support with details about what you're trying to save.

The preview doesn't match the live store

The admin preview is a close simulation but may not be 100% identical due to:

  • Theme-specific CSS that affects the live store but not the preview
  • Different container widths and page layouts
  • Interactions with other apps or custom code

Always test timers on your live store after configuration.

Technical Questions

Does the timer work with Shopify's AJAX cart?

Yes, the timer works independently and doesn't interfere with AJAX cart functionality. If you want the timer to update when the cart changes (e.g., show a different timer based on cart value), that would require custom development.

Can I use the timer with Shopify Markets/currencies?

Yes, the timer works with Shopify Markets. The timezone is based on your store settings, not the customer's location. If you need timezone-specific timers for different markets, you would need to create separate timers for each market.

Does the timer work with page caching?

Yes, the timer uses client-side JavaScript, so it works with Shopify's caching and CDN. The initial HTML may be cached, but the countdown logic runs in the browser, ensuring accurate time display.

Can I track timer views or clicks?

The app doesn't include built-in analytics. However, you can track button clicks using Google Analytics or other tracking tools by adding tracking parameters to your button URLs or using Google Tag Manager.

Is the timer compatible with Shopify's Online Store 2.0?

Yes, the app is fully compatible with Online Store 2.0, including app blocks, sections, and the updated theme editor. In fact, the App Block mode is designed specifically for OS 2.0 themes.

What happens to my timers if I uninstall the app?

If you uninstall the app, all timers will stop appearing on your storefront. Your timer data remains in our system for 30 days. If you reinstall within that period, your timers will be restored. After 30 days, the data may be permanently deleted.
